What is Live Editing?

Attention: the features described in this document are only available with the latest source code version of Umbraco 4 beta, which is available on CodePlex.

Update: you can see Live Editing in action in Podcast 7. However, it's much more fun to try it yourself!

Introduction

Until now, the output and input sections of Umbraco have always been separated. The output section is the website your visitors can see, while the input section is the Umbraco control panel as you see it every day.

If you think about that a little more, it just sounds like a weird distinction. Wouldn't it be easier if output and input all happened through the same interface? Live Editing is a special mode of your website where you can edit your content in place.

A lot of CMS systems today offer some form of in-place editing. However, most systems require your site and content to be in a special form to enable that functionality.

That was until the Umbraco team created Umbraco Live Editing.
Full flexibility of site structure, layout and content as you are used to with Umbraco, combined with the full freedom of in-place Live Editing.
