How to Get Started Contributing a Book

If you'd like to contribute a Book about umbraco, first come up with a descriptive title, decide on the appropriate Type and Version, and compose a brief description. Right now you will not have an easy way to edit details about the Book itself once you set it up, so give it some thought before you do. All the chapters you contribute you will continue to have access to through LiveWriter to make changes and resubmit at any time.

Title
This should state clearly the purpose of the Book

Type
The available types are:

  • How-to
A step-by-step explanation of how to accomplish a task. Screenshots are appreciated when useful!
  • Quick Tip
Good for smaller bits of information which would be useful to people using umbraco
  • Reference
Excellent for compiling lists of a specific type of thing, or describing some more technical or basic aspects of umbraco
  • XSLT Example
Explanations and examples of XSLT to generate certain results

umbraco Version
If your Book relates to a specific version of umbraco (to the exclusion of others), you can choose that version here. You can also choose "All versions" or "Not version related" for more general Books.

Short Description
This can include basic information about whether the Book requires a certain package to be installed, or what is included in the Book.

You need to Register for an umbraco Books account before you can create any Books. The password you choose will be used for each subsequent Book you write. A new username (consisting of your base username and the nodeId of your Book) will be generated for each Book you write. After you have Registered, you can Create as many Books as you like.

Take a gander at Bob's Book (How to use LiveWriter for Umbraco Books) for details on how to get set up to use LiveWriter to compose and publish your Chapters.
