I had the great pleasure of interviewing umbraco MVP Mr. Douglas Robar aka the most helpful guy I've ever met, this evening. Even though we had some technical difficulties, it turned out to a great podcast covering the community, CodeGarden '08 and the future of Doug's great packages ImageGen and XSLTSearch.

You need to have Flash and javascript enabled to use this video tutorial

(Podcast 2: Douglas Robar - 17 minutes)

As mentioned in the interview, Doug ask the community which of his tutorial ideas you'd like to see. Write about your favorite and why in the comments. The ideas were:

  1. Sharing content between umbraco installations using XSLT
  2. Bootstrapping e-commerce with umbraco and PayPal
  3. Creating an image gallery using umbraco concepts and ImageGen
  4. Search. A review of the different search solutions for umbraco and when and how to use what

    Nice podcast!

My vote is the paypal experience for me, however I think day two which is the Open Space format should cover the other 3 items possibly (depending on demand obviously)

I look forward to learning more about ImageGen and maybe having a showcase too !

I could see from forum Doug was very nice guy and very helpful the vid confirms it.

I am definately interested in shared content (may have requirement for it very soon). The paypal thing is also very interesting. May be both during open session as not as many people will be interested?

Anyone reading this comment hasn't got codegarden ticket yet get one! Having been to 06 and looking at the vids to date its gonna be well worth your £,$,E etc etc. PS im not on commission!

PPS: Niels you ever thought about getting into hollywood!

Great podcast - I vote for e-commerce then sharing a close second.

Any thoughts for a CodeGarden ScreenCast purchase (live or otherwise)? Can't make the trip across the pond, but sure would love to participate.

  10. Alec Griffiths Says:

    1: PayPal
    2: Sharing content

  11. Morten Bock Sørensen Says:

Fantastic podcast. Can't wait to see the new Imagegen in action. I could definitely see potential customers for the Pro version of that.

I would personally love to see the Bootstrapping ecommerce and the Search workshops at CG08.

  12. Gerty Engrie Says:

I'd also go for shared content, although an overview of search options would be nice too.
    Thanks for mentioning Netcentric :-)

  13. Lesley Says:

I haven't got my ticket yet but...
Photo gallery (using Lytebox) would be most useful to me atm, closely followed by content sharing.

  14. Soeren Sprogoe Says:

    Very nice indeed!

My vote definately goes to eCom / Paypal.

  15. Gert Abildskov@hasselblad.dk Says:

    Cool podcast!

    Shared content or paypal,

    I would say shared content.

    And PayPal sound cool...

  16. Douglas Robar Says:

Well, it looks like I'll be showing Content Sharing and PayPal at CodeGarden since these have the most interest. I'm not sure which will be my "official" presentation and which will be done in the openspace format. But you can expect I'll talk about both.

I've also asked Bob Baty-Barr to be ready with some info on Photo Galleries for an openspace topic. Bob has done some nice things with galleries, including hooking up Tim's Star Rating package inside LightBox so you can rank photos while viewing.

See you in a few weeks!

    cheers,
    doug.
